National Western Grand Prix, January 16

Karla and I go to the National Western Stock Show every year for a few events, but this year was the first time we went for the $40,000 Grand Prix. What a great time! Large and involved crowd, 27 entries, exciting jump off. We will go again next year! Not very many photos as the lighting was a little dark to catch the action. The few I have are in the first bit of the first video. Lots of video here, so if you aren't interested in Grand Prix, well, skip this post!

Usually we try and go for a day to check out all the exhibitors and the huge trade show, but that unfortunately just didn't work out this year. This weekend is the last weekend of the show. We will be heading back tomorrow night for the draft horse show, we went to that last year for the first time and can't wait to see it again. So, watch for more videos on the next post!

Mountain Ride, January 5

It was 64 degrees in Denver on Thursday, January 5th and the mountain roads were clear of snow. I don't remember ever having the opportunity to ride the mountains in January, so off I go! Slow and steady, enjoying the views and minding the less than ideal road conditions. No worries, I was not looking to scrape pegs.

Here is some GoPro of the ride, focusing on the incredible views. These are HD, so feel free to open up in a new window and go to full screen and resolution.

Brought home 2 caramel apples and a turtle for Karla. What a beautiful day! As I write this, these same roads are impassible by bike...

Why Do You Ride?

This can be a hard question to answer without putting you on the back seat.... English just doesn't seem to work! However, a friend of mine seems to have just managed to put it to words... It's short and worth the read, Rider or not.

If I have to explain....

Levitating Ninja 650R

The front end hanging from the rafters, the rear on a Harbor Freight stand... There's just something about a bike with no wheels that makes me laugh!

Yes, I know, she's filthy... That happens when you ride... *wink

Old tires on the left, new ones on the right. Going with a different style this time "round", my old ones wore out too quick in the center on highway trips for my liking.

I have two rides since on the new tires, so far so good! Must have done the swap right.

2011 Miles and Smiles!

Well, said farewell to 2011, and hello to 2012! Can't wait to see some new places and ride some new roads this year, a Redwoods trip is already booked!

2011 say 17,920 miles of two wheeled smiles, and looked something like this according to my SPOT.

Think I can log more miles this year? Yep, I think so too....

I have a new Spotwalla link for 2012, if you want to bookmark it. It's also available in the left sidebar under "About Me."

Chatfield Christmas Lights, Dec 22

Another annual tradition, the Chatfield Botanical Gardens Trail of Lights. Bless you Groupon (or living social, or whatever) for allowing us to go every year.... We pick the "worst weather" night possible so we pretty much have the place to ourselves. Those that do go besides us either move through quickly, or linger quietly like we do. Much more enjoyable.

Thursday, December 22nd it was 8 degrees with 18" of fresh snow and no wind. Oh YEAH. Lets go!

No, I didn't get stuck this time. And yes, that is another Subaru next to us!

This place is magical on the right night. Quiet, almost empty.

Old tractor awesomeness

All the fresh snow was perfect

Shhhhhhh. Can you hear?

We might look like idiots, but we were warm and therefore could take our time enjoying the spectacle.

These wreathes, bows and lights hung on every fence post

Talk about packing on holiday pounds...

For some reason this was mesmerizing

Nice yurt. We wouldn't be needing it though.

We really enjoy Chatfield for loads of reasons, but one is they are always adding and improving their lights. Quite a few new things this year, these "nets" being one of them.

Here was something else new!!

Our favorite every year is this monster of a tree. That's Karla standing in front of it. Breathtaking! Especially in the cold silence.

Hehe. Look what I found...

I am sure those that know me know EXACTLY what I'm thinking and what is going to happen next...

Found this little tree house was quietly playing Christmas music.

Got back to Dash and the windows had frozen pretty solid. From the inside! Always strange when that happens.

Great evening. We'll be back next year.
