The Big 3-0!!

It really was a great weekend! Thank you to everyone for your cards and phone calls. *insert old jokes here...

Had a great time with friends over the weekend! John, Ditch (nickname) and Amy, Dennis, Karla and I went on a nice, short ride on Saturday with full intention of "rescuing" cinnamon rolls from the Glen Haven General Store. Oh and a big thank you to Dennis for letting me use some of his pictures!

Alrighty, from left to right we have Karla's, Dennis', Ditch's, John's and my bike:

I don't have a photo of everyone, but here's Karla, John, Amy and I:

This place is famous...

See that guy in the bright green jacket? His name is John, he and his wife Cindy ended up there the same time we were (coming from the other direction)! They ride a Honda ST1300 (that blue bike on the far right), the newer version of my last bike. We are friends on the ST-Owners forum and they live about 10minutes from me. Previously that week I had "TAGged" the Glen Haven General Store, which is a game on the ST-Owners forum where you go and take a picture of something with your bike in it, then another person has to go get that same pic with their own bike, then "move" the "TAG" to another location by posting another picture with their bike in it? Get it? Yeah I didn't either at first... Some rules, most important is it has to stay in state (and this is a big state) and you have to take the 2 pictures within 24 hours of each other. It's LOADS of fun. Anyways, was hilarious to see John and Cindy there getting the TAG!

Aaaanyways, next we headed for the little town of Nederland and Backcountry Pizza for lunch! Picked up a friend along the way, Dan, aka Ditch's Boss! He's on the bright red Ducati parked next to my bike in this photo, great guy, hooks up with us often on rides.

Another bike shot:

Yummy! An excellent, rotating selection of local microbrews goes perfect with their rather spectacular pizza. From left to right: Amy, Ditch, John, Me, Karla, Dan.

After much yabbering and laughing, we headed out. Got almost back down to Golden when I pulled us over to strip, WHEW that 25 degree temperature difference was killer! It was shorts weather down in the Mile High!

Ditch had a backache, then Karla went to work on him. LOL.

From there Karla and I headed back to the house to drop off the bikes, change (too warm!!) into shorts and grab the car. Most others headed for John's house, as he and Angie had graciously invited everyone over for a BBQ! It was delicious, the company was fantastic. I really had a GREAT TIME. I had asked for no gifts, but you know how that goes! Ended up with a big bottle of Jack Daniels from John and Angie, a bottle of Jack Daniels honey (if you haven't tried it, you should) from Ditch and Amy, a gift card from Stacy, a case of Yuengling and 4 Yuengling glasses from Dan (he's the MAN), and a brand new Rand McNally 2012 atlas from Karla! She even put little tabs on certain pages with little notes. Love it. Everyone brought great cards too! Thank you! Here are some friend photos, I apologize I (Karla) didn't get pics of everyone, we were too busy enjoying ourselves!

Doug and I

John, John's neighbor Jeff, Dennis, Dan. Flattering photos eh? LOL

Jada, Angie, Liz and Kyser (son of Timmy and Brandi, awesome kid, the highlight of every party!)

Darlene, Ditch and Amy

ROFLMAO, see the relation?? Kyser and his daddy Timmy. Priceless photo...

Dan had an excuse to try out his new beer tower down in John and Angie's incredible basement.

It was actually really cool! That inner metal tube is frozen, kept the beer frosty for hours.

Full bar, huge TV, surround sound, bar size pool table and darts. Can you see why we are friends with them?? LOL ;)

Awesome spot to light the candles on a birthday cake...

Don't blow them out!!

HEY! I'm not that old!! Either they don't think I'm ever gonna hit 50 or they have another slogan for that birthday in mind! LOL. Totally dug the cake...

Oh yeah... Flattering photos.... Hahahaha.

Too....Many....Candles!!! Karla helped, thanks honey!

Can ya tell I liked this present? "Ooooooooooo!"

Haha, a gag gift from Stacy's 12 year old son! He said it reminded him of me...

Testing out Ethan's first batch of homebrew. He said he had the recipe for Yuengling, so we compared! Well, it was much more of a pilsner...

Dan, as he always does, fixing whatever computer/electrical/programming things in the house. He's GOOD at it!

Ethan and Jen

This is me, hitting a bulls eye in darts, for the first time ever.... To give this some perspective, I have managed to get darts in the ceiling....

It was a great evening with friends! I'm sorry I don't have photos of everyone that attended, I admit I really didn't take many pictures at all. Too busy having too much fun! Somehow all the dishes were magically done (thanks guys) and everything got cleaned up with me barely lifting a finger! Karla drove home (whew), what a great day!

Sunday was actually my birthday, so of course we went for a ride! Karla borrowed a friend's 1989 Kawasaki Ninja 500, as it's a good possibility a Ninja 500 (EX500, which is what I'll call it from here) would be a possible replacement bike for her aging XJ1100. The EX500s are a dime a dozen, bulletproof, GREAT on gas, easy on insurance and have been made for quite a while so parts are easy to find. Anyways, huge thanks to Jason for letting us take his bike out!

Grabbing some gas, gave Karla a chance to get acquainted tooling around the parking lot. This bike is 200 lbs lighter, has half the number of cylinders, less than half the cc output and gets twice the gas mileage. Ha, quite the change!

Time to ride! Today we were aiming to move the TAG (that John and Cindy had moved the day before), but unfortunately another ST-Owners forum member sneaked in and posted a new one just minutes before us! Ha, all in good fun, it was a great ride.

Snack break in Ward. What a beautiful day.

Got to introduce Karla to Blue Sky soda. Yummy.

The "little" Ninja fits her pretty well! Much better than it fits me, I looked like some sort of fat ape on it I'm sure. LOL

Time for lunch! Er, early dinner? Not sure, thank you honey for letting me sleep in... Anyways, we were in Lyons, tried it this new place. Nice location, decent food, terrible service. We didn't tip (I never do that) and won't be back.

Haha, three little ninjas all in a row... (the blue one is a "real" ninja, aka a 4 cylinder sport bike... Our mounts are two cylinders, more of a "standard" style)

Yum fried pickles! Their batter was uber tasty and crunchy. Karla bit into this one and laughed, "look honey, tiny pickle!" LOL, it was hysterically funny at the time....

Got home safely, took the freeway so Karla could see what the bike would do at 80mph. The verdict on the EX500? "It's a nice bike, but nothing beats my flying Lazy Boy!" Haha, it's true, her XJ is ridiculously comfortable (same seating as a Goldwing), nice and heavy so it's very stable on the freeway, good wind protection, and an engine that pulls like a freight train no matter what RPM. It'll be hard to replace it in our budget, that's for sure!

Again, thank you everyone for your birthday wishes! It was a spectacular weekend I will not forget for a long time. It's rare that everything goes so perfectly, even more rare when it happens to be your birthday! Thanks everybody.
